AAS410
some time ago, one of the regular writers in Airgun World(?) wrote an article about using a kids toy as a pigeon decoy. The toy was a motorised battery-powered bird (a dove) which had flapping wings, and when attached with a length of fishing line to a 6ft pole stuck in the ground, would flap its wings and fly around the pole. the writer reckoned he had painted it up to look like a pigeon, and tried it as a rotary decoy with good success. Does anybody remember these toys, and has anybody on here used one to try and decoy pigeons? Any success?
snarepeg
Yes, bought one myself in Tenerife about 10 years ago with high hopes of pigeons falling over them selves to land. Pigeons didnt show and batteries ran out so binned it. john
vampire
If you are using an air rifle on pigeons, just buy a bag of sharp sand and spread it near your hide with two or three decoys to one side of the hide and a slit open rabbit the other side for the crows/maggies,works wonders
AAS410
ahh, so they didn't do the business, then. Shame - I remember at the time thinking that they could possibly work quite well, when you see how a normal pigeon rotary works. I have managed to find somebody who has a couple of these 'birds' in working order - if there's nothing else doing, I might just try the things out and see what happens! As for the sharp sand tip - thanks, thats a new one.
