How many working years could you expect to get out of a healthy ESS or Cocker?

This is just out of intrest as when I do get my 1st shooting partner it will be with me for life.

and at what age would you buy a replacement dog to start and train before you retier the old one too a life of luxary?

your Cocker should be good for at least 10 years of good hunting if well looked after, I would start to bring another pup on while my older dog is still in good working health for the younger dog to learn from him, I'd my Cocker retrieving pigeons from a hide at 7 months and he was good at it too, he's now 4 years old and money couldn't buy him. All the best with yours.

Roughly about ten years working life and maybe another dog when the other one gets to about 8 years old as a rough guide
