The OP's mates Mrs does not like the idea of it in the garden, so not a real problem is it ? There are so many of them in urban areas if you shoot one another will soon take its place. The only effective permanent solution is to securely fence off the property. I have foxes in my garden frequently, never caused a problem and I doubt they ever will. Squirrels cause more hassle. Thinking of rearing pheasants in the garden this summer, if the foxes get them then I will not blame them, I will blame myself for not providing adequate security in the way of fencing, electric and conventional.
