Good Mornings Shooting

I was asked to help out with a couple of mates last sunday morning on his pemission, we started about 9.45am.

 

I was asked to shoot over cut maize from a deep ditch,with a small wood behind me.

there was no need to put up camo but i did just in case.

 

My mates were one field away with a pigeon magnet.( these were small fields)

 

Anyway I put out pigeon decoys including one bouncer,dont know why i bothered they never even attempted to come down to them.

But the pigeon just came at me from all directions,I had a nice assortment of bird flights to hit left to right , right to left, driven low high etc.

so i thought ah well give it ago, its all good practice for me, its been sometime since i have had this many to choose from.

 

After nailing approx 15 or so it went a bit quiet on the pigeon front,but my only one crow decoy i put out was bringing crow in like no tomorrow, so i tought ok I will shoot you ( i was asked to shoot crow as well) and I done ok, as I started to get a quite a few blacks blobs dotted about the field i thought i would tidy up and use them as decoys.I even got myself a triple ( well above tree hieght)with one rattle of the auto.

 

Then the penny dropped what was happening to the pigeon, they were seeing my mates pigeon magnet to my right, so when they came towards me they were on a mission going of to my right for his magnet but I still managed to collect 30 pigeon with aleast 4 ruffled feathers.As for the crow I counted 15 off the field.

 

I had to pack up at midday as I had to go and help another shooter out on another permission in the afternoon.

 

I done the norm and cleaned up my spot of the cart cases etc and delivered my kills to mates, who said' some good shooting there you were taking down some dam high ones we could see them over the wood, we have a couple of your kills here already'. And I went on my way feeling quite chuffed with myself getting what i thought was 30 pigeon and 15 crow in approx two and quarter hours.

 

But it got better,I had a call tonight from one of the shooters i was with on Sunday,he took his dogs a walk round the area today and into the wood where i could not get into the day before and he said 'he and his mate got 95 pigeon, they shot from 9.45am till late and that he had found signs of ten more pigeons kills from me and another four crows and at the top of the maize field another six crow'.

 

I did feel a alot better about that tally, because at might first count 30 pigeon and 15 crow on 125 carts is perhaps not so good,but now 40 pigeon and 25 crow, I am happy with that. Shame I did not have camera with me to proove my spoils to you.

 

Anyway mate says he is going to ring again in next few weeks........... can't wait! I will take my camera next time!
