aliengravy
Sorry I'm a newbie, so this may sound dumb! But if load data says 70mm PT (parallel tube) case Is that any 70mm plastic case? If not can someone show me the difference with pictures? As i'm a lil confused! Thanks
brian28
most cases today are parallel tube with seperate base wad ,Winchester used to make compresion formed cases no base wad. Presure was higher in these cases, there was definate taper from case mouth to primer pocket end . Try google compression formed cases. Andy H
they do not make compression formed cases any more and winchester were the manufacturer at the time , Do not use pt tube reloading data on cf cases as they are tapered internally and will produce excessive pressures compared to pt cases, Look inside the cases and you will see a base wad a different colour to the tube that is a pt case all euro cases are pt fiocchi / express / eley etc.

aliengravy
A-Ha! It all makes sense now! So I have lots of cases here I have been saving up, and when i look in the bottom of them (red case) there is a bit of white plastic around the primer. I assume that's the base wad? Meaning that the cases I have are PT cases! Is that correct? Edited January 15, 2011 by aliengravy
brian28
Yes thats a pt case only cp were winchester and remington sts
aliengravy
OK last silly question... I promise If I have load data for a 70mm case? And want to use a 67mm case, can I just shorten the spacers I use by 3mm?? Or are the pressures different? Thanks
aliengravy
Are none of you going to answer this for me? Or was it just a really silly question?
Andy H
you have to reduce the powder charge slightly going from 70 to 67mm , Have a look at this nobelsport data for Vectan A1. http://www.nobelsport.fr/nobelsport/fr/schedules/vec_a1.html
