The Essex Hunter
enny one got plans/ideas on making some phesant feeders im trying to keep them on the cheap side I used some 10 ltr trade paint containers last year, as it was the first time we stuck feeders out on a small rough shoot. Just washed them out and made a hole to take a corn spring, why we did this is if they got trashed/nicked only the cost of the spring. On the shoot there are load of small crab apple trees, so I tied of the buckets using post office blue cord and away we went. Yes, the corn does not last that long but it was a trial and it worked very well. Loads of birds around them and with Wills GSP it was good sport. Paul223
find a farm that milks and buys teat dip in 205 liter plastic drums, ask them to keep the drums for you. Then either cut the drum top off around the top on the side and make a lid out of a steel 205 drum end leaving 2 or 3 inch of side to drop over the plastic drum or cut the top off on the end and make a plywood water tight lid wash the drums out for each drum cut 3 lengths of 3 x 2 soft wood, cut one end of the wood lengthways at an angle so it tapers for the last 12 inch down the 2 x 2, coach bolt these (on the cut edge so the legs taper out from the drum) to the drums so they give you about 18 or 20 inches of ground clearance a tip is to use the tapered off cut taped to the bottom of the next leg to use against the saw fence use a 50mm hole saw to cut one or more spring holes job done Edited January 22, 2011 by Paul223
The Essex Hunter
thanks 4 that mate but come on enny more iders I got 8 of these from the back of my local indian restrant FOC, scrap timber from a skip, bolts from the boot sale. I heated up a piece of pipe with the oxy and burnt a hole through the size of the spring, cheaper than buying the right size hole saw. Standard sort you see all over the place, the trick is FOC. Paul223
aye should said ....... better if you can get the screw on lid type drums saves the lid making work, but you get what i mean with the legs from TEH's piccy think the hole saw cost a fiver ish, i've made about 25 or 28 with it also i have a plasma cutter so making the lids out of steel 205 drums is easy, about a lid a minute (probably quicker to be honest)
