slugger
well peeps, i fancy trying a heavyer pellet in my 177 prosport, i have been using air arms / jsb exact both with great results! tried some bisley pest controll [dont like em, not good for long range] and tried some rws hobby's [again rubbish, and a right pain to load the breach] so i was looking at these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tin-Bisley-Magnum-177-Pellets-/230540616050?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item35ad4aa172 and wondered if they would be any good [quality/accuracy etc] and also will i find them no good for me with only 11.9 ft/lbs [seem to see these pellets advertised with FAC air rifles in mind, no doubt due to their increased weight over other pellets ive used] ...... so i guess the question is, will the added hitting power be welcome for me? or will i lose too much range ? david_r
Hi, I use bisley mags in .177 with a sub 12fpe rifle with no problems. Slightly loopy trajectory compared to lighter pellets, but other than that, it kills rabbits cleanly no problem at all (I generally dont shoot further than 30 yards though) Having said that, my .177 is a PCP which I believe is more efficient with a heavier pellet, whereas springers I think are better suited to lighter pellets. Depends if the pellet is accurate really with your barrel. The bisley mag is the only pellet that was extremely accurate in my .177 so I use them solely based on that reason. FalconFN
The Bisley pest controll are too tight a fit for a springer and you will get very low ft/lbs and only any good at short ranges anyway. I used Bisley Magnums in .177 until recently, again with a pcp, but I've changed to JSBs as they are a bit too hard and don't deform well on impact plus I couldn't see the point of having a .177 and using slower, loopier pellets - may as well use .22. Anyway, the magnums are very good quality and accurate (although I've never used them in a springer) but in my opinion you would do better to stick to the medium weight pellets - better accuracy, flatter and faster trajectory and as far as I can tell just as much 'hitting power' as the heavy pellets without flying straight through. As you can tell I'm not convinced that heavy pellets do have a greater hitting power as they will be travelling more slowly than lighter pellets. I'm of the opinion that, all things counted, there will be no discernable difference in energy at hunting distances between faster, lighter pellets and slower, heavier ones. But I'd be happy to be show evidence to the contrary.
