dooseydog
Applied first two coats of Boiled Linseed Oil and Turpentine ( 50/50 mix) , no tackniness, smooth as the proverbial, however the Walnut stock - well I think it is - Miroku of the 70's - has perfect grain configuration but finish is very, very light and do not want to keep applying more coats if it will not go darker. Have read Walnut Oil gives a darker finish, if so would like to use it but do not know if it will have an adverse effect on the BLO applied previously - can anyone help ? ps do not want to stain the stock with stains Many thanks James Edited February 21, 2011 by dooseydog
johnbaz
Hi Alkanet oil will give the stock a reddish hue but it usually goes on before the finishing oil.. Not sure about the walnut oil making it darker, i think after two coats, it's as dark as it's going to get by just oiling.. This was when I did it a couple of years ago, it was a nasty grain-less yellow colour that was common to 1970's Original rifles John
