bicykillgaz
hi, i'm after some advice on footwear, i've got between £150-£200 to spend, i'm looking for a decent pair of boots that can be worn day in day out for walking the dogs and all my shooting needs too plus we got walking in the lakedistrict every year, i generally destroy wellies in 3-6 months so i'm reluctant to spend out big money wellies for fear of been disapointed and skint. so i'm looking for leather boots, i can't decide weather to get some more hiking boots some high ankled boots like mouflons, douvre extremes or to go for something similar to them musto leather shooting boots or dubarrys which i generally think look a bit girly equestrian. i'm a size 9 boot and have wide wedge like feet which will obviously effect the style i can go for, and i'm not after anything with a gortex liner as they are pants. so what are you guys wearing? atb gary

Vipa
hi, i'm after some advice on footwear, i've got between £150-£200 to spend, i'm looking for a decent pair of boots that can be worn day in day out for walking the dogs and all my shooting needs too plus we got walking in the lakedistrict every year, i generally destroy wellies in 3-6 months so i'm reluctant to spend out big money wellies for fear of been disapointed and skint. so i'm looking for leather boots, i can't decide weather to get some more hiking boots some high ankled boots like mouflons, douvre extremes or to go for something similar to them musto leather shooting boots or dubarrys which i generally think look a bit girly equestrian. i'm a size 9 boot and have wide wedge like feet which will obviously effect the style i can go for, and i'm not after anything with a gortex liner as they are pants. so what are you guys wearing? atb gary If you have wide feet then you sould not look at anything other than Dovre Extremes... I have spent literally thousands on boots (military & hiking) over the years trying to find something I can wear without being in discomfort/agony after an hour... have also spent a small fortune on kit to try to stretch boots etc..... Tried on a pair of Dovres last year and they slipped on (almost) like a pair of slippers! Haven't looked back since... no squeeze, no pressure points, absolute comfort whether on the move or sitting in a hide... I no longer wear wellies for anything... my Dovres & gaiters and I'm a happy, dry chappy with all day support & comfort. The only thing I don't like about them is the waxy finish to the leather, comes off after a while but that leaves the leather looking dried out. I clean with warm water, use Lowa leather cleaner to condition the leather and then use Lowa leather cream... job sorted! I just wish I could find a pair of black combat style boots in a similar last... then I would be really happy... The other alternative is to try Altberg who are based in Richmond, North Yorks. They have a huge range and varying width fittings in hunting/hiking/military footware and will even make to measure.... for a price Only found out about them after I had found my Dovres so didn't feel any need to try and fix something that ain't broke for the first time in years!! Edit... just read the OP.... Dovre Extremes are a Goretex boot hence the reason I no longer wear wellies. Most of the boots I have had in the past decade have been Goretex and apart from fit problems have all performed flawelessly. There are MANY stalkers out there who use Dovres and really abuse them with no issues whatsoever! Edited February 26, 2011 by Vipa
WGD
I think Vipa's about covered it Gary, the Dovre's are great boots. IMO the Harkila are better boots but slightly narrower fitting, worth trying both on if you can.

Vipa
hi vipa cheers for that mate, the douvre extreme sound perfect whats the general retail on them? cheers gary Shelf price is normally £220-240. I got mine from Nothallerton Shooting supplies for £180 (they were on the shelf at £220 and he knocked £40 without me having to ask!!) If you are going to Newark tomorrow you will pick some up well under £200. But if not... once you have tried some on and found your size, you will be able to order some online for £190-199 Paul
HW682
Another vote for Dovre's from someone with wide feet Comfortable straight from the box, not too stiff and surprisingly they feel lighter than my old Scarpa Delta standard ankle height boots. You won't Be dissapointed.atb Dave Not with wide feet... I have a pair of Lowa Combat Boots and a Pair of Lowa Police boots... both lovely, especially the combats but thay are a very 'standard' width fitting and even after spending months trying to stretch them, with the proper equipment and trying to break them in for over a year, I am still in agony on the widest point of my metatarsal joints (nothing special just wide feet) The only wide fitting boot Lowa do is the lower, slightly less robust military boot which isn't what I wanted/needed. Don't get me wrong, if they did a wide fit accross the range, I would buy Lowas all day long! but trust me... they do not work with wide feet..
