Davy Holt
Hiya, I went to take the jap Import Mitsubishi Challenger 2.8td auto out on Wednesday night, turned the key and the starter (was replaced 2 years ago) started to turn the engine over then died away as though I had a flat battery even though the internal volt meter was showing 12.5v. So yesterday I got the works Shogun and a heavy duty jump leads and tried to jump start it.. after half an hour I was still only getting a click from the solenoid when I turned the key. I got a hold of a multi meter and checked both batteries (they are 2 years old) and sure enough they were both fully charged, I also checked all the connections that I could get to and they all seem fine. Now since I got the car 7 years ago I have always had an intermittent fault, if you were too quick at turning the key the started never fully engaged and it sounded like there was teeth missing from the starting ring. I've had the starter ring checked, replaced the started and batteries and it has made no difference the fault still randomly occurs. When it does all you have to do is sit with the ignition on for a minute or so then it will start every time. Now I'm thinking this intermittent fault is at the root of my problem but the problem is I don't have a clue as to what could be causing it, so anyone got any ideas ??
