Where should he be

I know every dog is different and everyone has their opinions but where should a black lab male be at 5.5 months old? Mine will sit on whistle when on the lead, walk to heel on the lead and off but only in the garden, retrieve from a pool and garden and bring them to me. Some times though he will just want to Play with the dummy so I stop the training. His recall has also gone a bit off so we r going back to working on that

That is the million dollar question.

And the real question is are you happy with his progress as he is still very young

As said still very young and a dog will only learn as quick as it wants to. Expect a little more ignorance or difficult situations as he is coming up to those teenage months (mines doing it at the moment) always keep

It fun which is something I have detached from which has made it a little worse. Also being a male you will have some testosterone fuelled idiocy to work with :).

So I'm back to making as many sessions as fun as possible and I have been noticing a difference.you seem like you are going forward in the correct direction as he will sit to whistle etc. Don't worry to much as he is still very young :good:

many havent even started training proper at under six months. Its a marathon not a sprint, there is no time scheadule. some go ahead of scheadule then regress some seem hopeless then all of a sudden you have a cracker of a dog at 3 yr old. might i suggest you just have fun together as any judging on a dog still under six months is a little unfair as he is still mentally and physically imature. he sounds ok, but then again you might have a villan on your hands at 1yr, either way handle it and have fun
