I have fished the Parlour Pool a few times on the Royalty, but have never done as well as on the "cheaper" stretches.

I had been told that early season is best and to get those dates you had to book years in advance (it may be better nowadays), so we always fished it rather later and on a few occasions the river was also very high (the luck of the draw when you prebook).

My best day ever on the Royalty was on the tidal free stretch the otherside of the A35 Christchurch Bypass.

The river splits here and I fished down the right leg with luncheon meat on the tip while loose feeding a lot of maggots.

I had 6 barbel from 4-7 lbs, 3 nice chub all about 5lb and when I went over to trotting maggot on the float I had some nice roach and 2 sea trout.
