silver pigeon 3 Posted May 20, 2011 Report Share Posted May 20, 2011 Hi we picked up our black lab puppy yesterday and the crate training seems to be going well, My question is do you put the puppy back into the crate everytime he needs a sleep, or is it ok to sometimes let him sleep out of the crate? FalconFN Posted May 20, 2011 Report Share Posted May 20, 2011 The crate should be somewhere they feel comfortable and safe so yes, I would put him in it to sleep. Troosers Too Posted May 21, 2011 Report Share Posted May 21, 2011 After playing with and interacting with the pup, as soon as it starts to flag a bit or you need to get on and do something else, pop the pup into the crate. Covering the crate with a blanket will also help as this can cut down on distractions though some pups don't like the feling of being cut off from the family. You'll be amazed how quickly most pups will consider the crate 'home' and will happily take themselves off there for a bit of down time. No mess to wake up in the morning to & pup takes herself in there when she's tired, we only had 2 nights of moaning too before she slept through without disturbing us. silver pigeon 3 Posted May 21, 2011 Author Report Share Posted May 21, 2011 Cheers guys , he is only whining for a short while at night and then settles down and sleeps till about 6am , so far he has been clean every night and has started taking his self to his crate for a rest.
