D_No
Afternoon all, have just read cookoffs post about new steel shells. I noticed it says "suitable for guns with standard proof" or something like that anyway! I had been avoiding buying steel for claying as I didnt think my gun would take it, I shoot an AYA yeoman produced in 1972, and have been waiting for the right o/u to come up before buying steel; however this has now got me thinking, what do they mean by standard proof? Will I be able to use steel in the old'gal till I pick up an o/u? Cheers, D_No
Guest cookoff013
i wouldnt, the steel proof mark is a fleur delis thing. or on italian shotguns psf ** on top. the all shells have to be less than 11kpsi. 9000 being the normal. i dont know what the chokes would do.... gamebore sugest any choke, with shotsizes less than 3mm ? no more than 1/2 with shotsizes that exceed 3mm. this is very frustrating, as i`ve ordered shotsizes from multiple outlets and got several fifferent sizes. ranging from 5s to 7s. here is the cip regs. http://www.steel-shot.com/page.php?id1=5 cook. Highlander
I don't think any gun produced back in the 70's will be proofed for steel. Back then (yes I can remember) steel hadn't even been thought of and lead was KING! Rightly so and ever more should it continue

poontang
haha I was 'nowt but a twinkle' I'm afraid! I will stick with lead for pigeon/rough shooting but trying to bring the cost of claying down! D Just use 21g lead loads for clays, they're about the same price as steel.....and better. I only use steel for 'fowling, as I have to use non-tox shot, otherwise I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole...it's cack!!
