bvemanta
Right I need to get something to sharpen knives. I used to have a nice piece of charnwood stone that worked a treat And I could get a razor sharp edge but I unfortunately have lost it. All the stones I have seen round here seem to be way too coarse rubbish etc but have seen all these new fangled steels etc. Who has used what to good effect and would recommend it. FalconFN
I use a Fallkniven DC4, it has a coarse diamond-coated side that I never use, and a smooth ceramic side that gives a very keen edge. I can shave with my knife after a few stokes with the ceramic side and I've never felt the need to strop. You use it like a traditional whetstone but use it dry, plus its very compact so you can have it in your pocket all the time. Works very well for me. Good to polish the blade though.

I suppose it depends on how you sharpen, I 'slice' forward on the stone and you can only drag backwards with paper otherwise it cuts it.
