bakerboy
Spur of the moment decided to have a few hours out this afernoon, Paul (gnome in the woods) was contacted for his first day on the Pigeons. I went to a permission that had had problems with the rape, just did not grow and had been ploughed in. The field has been re-sown with Sunflower, and the pigeons and the rabbits had hit it hard. We set up but only saw a few birds in the distance, and few rabbits just out of range, but identified where we need to be next time out. I have had my suspicions that someone else was shooting this permission entering at a point where access is easily made from a public area, and well away and out of earshot from the farm dwellings, and today my suspicions were proven. The culprit must have felt guilty as they left me a bag with 3 full bodied pigeon decoys, price labels still attached. These were left where I felt was the best place to set up, so they have helped to confirm my thoughts. I left a note asking for the owner of the decoys to form a queue at my home. We packed up and went to say good bye to the Farmer, and explained that I will be away on holiday for the next few weeks, but if required Paul would come over and shoot the rabbits. The Farmer OK'd this and Paul now has permission to shoot the rabbits without being accompanied, so good news for Paul and 3 New Decoys for me, so not a bad day after all. Gnome of the Woods
I thought you said we were going to lie and say we had to many to photograph! Thanks Terry, most appreciated all the help you have given me! My reputation of a class A pigeon scarer is intact still Hopefully I can get a few hours over there in the next couple of weeks and confirm your suspicions about where they are settling on the field. And give some bunnys a lead ache in the process!
Cosd
It wasn't other shooters who left the decoys? It's the decoy fairies! You obviously been a good boy!

caeser
Its strange that about the pigeon shooters who are there without permission leaving stuff behind. I found, hidden in a bush, 12 new shell decoys, a cammo net, a pair of cheap binoculars and half a dozen cartridges. I took the cartridges, but left everything else there. About 2 years later I was at the same spot with a friend, it was now a lot more overgrown, and my friend found the same equipment ,still there. So why do they leave it ? Recently ,we came across a hide in the corner of a field, with 2 reasonably good hide poles, not home made ones. A large army style cammo net, and a realtree mesh net as a backdrop. There was an empty cartridge box on the floor and a few empty shells. It had obviously been there for a while because the mesh net had a few holes where it had perished. So why do they leave it ? Very strange.
