ellebarto
Is a barrel shroud on an air rifle just a cosmetic thing or does it have a moderating effect? I'm new to air rifles and have been making myself look silly asking questions on BSAOG so I thought I'd come back to friendly old pigeon watch and see if I get any nice replies! nick2
I seem to remeber reading that they were originally introduced for the American market as they are not allowed silencers. They do have a moderating effect but I soon got rid of mine on my R-10 as it is much quieter with the moderator screwed direct onto the barrel. Fitting a moderator onto a shrouded barrel makes the gun too long for my liking. Edited June 10, 2011 by nick2
FalconFN
I had a Wiehrauch HW98 and that had a shrouded barrel but it was there to balance the rifle and had no moderating effects. Some shrouds are supposed to act as mods but I don't think they are as quiet as screw ons.
