groach1234
Well had another couple of bucks booked with john yesterday evening and this morning. Anyway we went up to his land at pickering last night and sat up looking over a bit of freshly cut silage to no avail. There was one roe that we thought was a doe but john wasn't 100% sure as although it had not antlers it looked to potentially have predicels (spelling?) but it never presented a shot so no matter anyway. However it was a very late night as we had to get back to johns then I had to get home from there and I wasn't home until 12.10 and was going to be up at 3 and my head didn't hit the pillow until 12.30. So after 2 and 1/2 hours sleep and an alarm that came just too soon I was up and on the roads again. Anyway I got to johns for 3.55 (just) as arranged and we were on the way to his ground. So we parked up the truck, got breeze out and off we went. We'd hardly been moving for 10 mins when John spotted a buck where he'd seen a different buck before as he was expecting a yearling 4 and this was a big 6. anyway he appeared to be looking for a way out of the paddock as he was going up and down a hedge looking for a gap and after about 15 mins he started walking towards us. It was on.....Or so i thought. He stopped and headed back 20 yards short of where the backstop was sound  he circled the small bit of woodland and looked as if he was going to come up towards us giving another safe backstop. No such luck. He went back and disappeared, we assume into the woodland and after 20 mins decided he'd be laid up so we moved on to a different patch of ground. We had two choices sit in a high seat where I shot my last buck with him when the foxing lads had spotted a 6 point buck or go for a wonder on a different patch of the shoot. Always being one for a nice walk I opted for that. So we parked up the truck and set off. We'd only been out the truck for about 3 mins and were about to round the corner and we heard a very strange noise indeed. It didn't sound much like any deer I'd ever heard barking and john wasn't too sure what it was and asked me if i thought it was a bark and i replied i wasn't sure as it didn't sound like a crow nor a deer maybe a cross between the two. Anyway as we rounded the corner there he was, looking in our direction 40m's off. Anyway gun on the sticks John said go for the neck and bang one deer down on the deck like a sack of spuds. Anyway he turned out to be about a 2 year old with a nice little 6 point buck and I was relieved to have him on the ground as it was deer number 10 for me and my experience is growing every outing. Anyway thanks john and breeze for a couple of great outings. George
