Taking the .22 for a walk

I have neglected my .22 of late,as i reach for the .17hmr as a first choice, but i have been missing a lot of late so decided to take the hmr and the .22 for a zero session.

I decided to put my nighteater on the .22 as it was just sitting there, and after finding a nice spot in a field the .22 was doing its usual trick of hole on hole at 50yds.

I then tried to zero the hmr,and with both me and my mate both hitting all over the shop,it was obvious there was something wrong,i had noticed the moderator was a bit tight to put on,so i swapped it and bang on target, the old mod had cross threaded and was clipping, lucky for me not enough for damage to rifle or me.

I decided to take the .22 for a walk on the golf course the hour before dark, and first bunny was seen, got as close as i could, but still had a bit of distance,so gave some hold over and popped a round out, bunny back flips and is down,i paced out 110paces, about 105yds,so was well happy, all the others were all 50-70 yds and it was a real pleasure to use the .22,i had forgotten how versatile a little rifle it is,it accounted for 7 rabbits in an hour just walking about, and would have had more but for a woman running around shouting for billy her dog that had run off.

Once dark i had a scout with the hmr,and another rabbit at about 80yds,what a difference in the state of a rabbits head!

I climbed up a vantage tower to see the next fairway, and as i scanned the next fairway i noticed a set of eyes about 20yds away below me,it was foxy sitting in a big patch of brambles looking straight at me,he was dispatched with a head shot, and dropped where he was,no picture because i wasnt going to go into the brambles to haul him out.

For the last hour i went out to the chicken farm,i saw a few foxes, but these are lamp shy, call shy,shy of anything as dozens are shot every couple of weeks, but there was one fox trying to get into the sheds, and also shooting back and fore looking for grubs etc,i gave one mouse squeek, and he came in like an express train,i shouted OY at about 30 yds and he stopped, and got a hole between his eyes,he had a bad tail on him and was a bit emancipated, yet his teeth were in good condition, one less chicken snatcher to worry about.

So both rifles shooting spot on again, and i think i may take the .22 out a little bit more, the one thing i did notice, when you hit a rabbit with the .22 all the other rabbits were history, but the hmr gives you a bit more time,to get one or two rabbits.

nice work :good:

you seen that aussie dvd he use the same calls oy!!!

what nv setup is that??

The nv is SM-3S2DN6 6x Day/Night Vision rifle its a scope you can use in the day,and then at night you turn the lever and it is a 2nd gen night vision scope, with a laser on top it is very effective.

This is it,http://www.nvscopes.com/night%20vision%20scope%20Gen2%20SM3S2DN%20HTH%20752.html

Do you have a link to the aussie dvd?

I shout oy as a way of stopping the fox for that split second to get a shot off,but any loud word will do
