ste 2712
decided to go out on some wheat this afternoon so i was setup in hide for 12:30 no sooner had i sat down pigeons were coming in from all directions. problem i was having was finding the bloody things amongst the wheat i had ten birds in about 5 mins of being in the hide but only picked 2 !they were everywhere and if i didnt have to try an shoot only the close in bird's to make it easier to find them i could have had a massive bag! usualy i shoot with a mate (nickcass23 off here) which makes it easier for 1 to spot and direct to the bird but being on my own it was nigh on impossible!! i had thought about packing up within half an hour as i had shot 30+ birds an only managed to pick 12 i didn't i stayed till 4 by which point i was well ****** off by the amount i was losing. in the picture is 23 i managed to pick must have shot 60 but i wasn't going to destroy the wheat looking for them all !! sorry about the quality of pictures there off my phone which has seen better day's! atb steve

caeser
Steve, at this time of the year, I get phone calls from the farmer/farmers asking me to control the pigeon numbers, but not to go into the crop for them. I am only there as a pest controller so, if thats what he wants, then thats what I do. I don't like to waste the meat, but there's no option. If I decided not to bother when the crop was standing, then I wouldn't be shooting there for much longer, someone else would soon jump in. So don't worry about it, its just the way it is at this time of the year. I'll soon be able to pick them all up so I'm not too bothered. Another plus is, I sometimes have to cross a couple of fields to get to my chosen field, and walking about three quarters of a mile with all my equipment on my back is a real pain, but as soon as the crops cut, I can drive across to where I'm going to shoot, drop my gear off and also don't have to carry a hundredweight of pigeons back.
