amouzoures Posted December 16, 2002 Report Share Posted December 16, 2002 Hi everyone Basically i am very excited going pigeon shooting this week end, just wondering any last minute ideas apart from having a shotgun and cartridges. I bought myself a couple of pigeon decoys and i noticed on the web page how to place them facing into the wind, what happens if their is no wind and also how far apart do i place them when i form a horse shoe, i have about 15 decoys. Also what is the best time to arrive at the farm and getting prepared. I suppose there is no garantee that we will shoot anything but then again when can you garantee something, so i have paid my money and just enjoy myself. I will let you know if i have shot anything. lazza Posted December 16, 2002 Report Share Posted December 16, 2002 Hi amouzoures, if you can, keep an eye on the field for a few days before you shoot. Look to see where the birds are coming from & where in the field they prefer to feed. If you get a chance, walk them off first & then see how long & where they come back.If there's not much wind I usually put out a flatter pattern, rather than a tight horseshoe.I would start off,putting the deeks about 5ft apart & adjust them if you need to.Make sure the tail of the deeks are'nt facing into the wind, as the pigeons do not naturally feed this way. Also see if you can make your deeks easily seen by the incoming birds. At the moment I'm shooting over rape, & because there is so much of it around, I've found it best for me to be set up at first light & catch the birds coming in. This usuallly only gives me a couple of hours shooting, as the birds then move onto other rape fields. Let us know how you get on! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
