A mate and i are going flounder fishing in the Kingsbridge estuary.

Summer time crabs are a huge problem so we`re going to give some bait floats a go. Problem is we haven`t a clue how to use them.

Anyone out there got any experience of using bait floats?

Thanks.

Could this be an option for you to try?

I thought flatties were strickly bottom only feeders - a few years back I used to fish with this bloke that always put a small lead weight next to the hook to keep the bait tight on the bottom if we were fishing in the river or out at sea! :good:

Not flounders. They are quite aggressive little blighters and will come well off the bottom to chase prey or a lure.

I'm assuming that you'll be using small worm baits? If this is the case just have a few poly balls above the bait acting as bait stops. Have just enough to pop it up off the bottom, I've used these on a rotten bottom running ledger where there were crabs a plenty and it worked okay for me even with fairly large baits. I put elastic round the bait also if its rag to stop the flounders sucking it off.

Put some pics up if you get lucky, the SW estuary write ups were always my fave articles in Sea Angler. Tight lines
