phaedra1106
Just sorting my shopping list for our next trip to the USA and found a good deal on Nosler 30 cal 168gr Custom Competition bullets. Even though these are match grade target bullets would they be classed as expanding ammunition (when loaded) as they are hollow point?. phaedra1106
Don't know who told you that but it's wrong You can bring bullets back in normal checked luggage without any problem, they are not restricted in any way. I got confirmation from the TSA about this and have brought them back on the last 2 trips, had a full luggage inspection on the last trip and the only thing they removed were 2 bottles of Birchwood Casey Case Cleaner. Here's the relevant part of the email from the TSA, "The reloading press, dies, powder scale, empty un-primed brass cartridge cases, bullet heads, rifle scopes, and bullets are permitted in checked baggage. We do recommend, however, that you carry the rifle scopes through the screening checkpoint since these items are permitted in the aircraft cabin. Doing so would afford the item better protection against potential damage. I hope this information is helpful. Vipa
If the bullets are NOT 'designed to expand in a controlled and uniform manner' then they are not classed as section 5. as an example Sierra Matchkings are hollow pointed but are not classed as expanding. As above, you are ok to bring bullets back but if they are expanding, take your ticket with you to prove you are entitled to posess.. Remember, Expanding projectiles are classed as ammunition in this silly country!
phaedra1106
Thanks I was fairly sure that as they are classed as Match bullets they would be OK
phaedra1106
Sounds about right I just worked out that 1000 x 168gr for the .308 and 1000 x 240gr plated for the .44 will come to about 26.43Kg!! I'll have to do some serious planning with the rest of the stuff I want to keep within our luggage allowance!. On the good side the .308 alone will save me £150 - £200 against UK prices Also getting some spare parts for the Browning Buckmark LBP I have, prices are around 70 to 80% cheaper than here.
