steve_b_wales
Yesterday, 'the poacher'(Mark)and myself, went up to one of my permissions, to try for some pigeon's that were hammering the farmers field of swede's. We noticed about 70, two days before, and thought that we were in with a chance. I met Mark at 4am,and we made our way to the farm. Because of the low cloud and mist, it took longer than usual to get light enough for us to set up.We started setting up at.We erected the hide, and placed some pigeon decoys in a horseshoe pattern. We also had a rota set up, together with two floaters with decoy pigeons on. In less that 2 minutes of us sitting back in the hide, a crow landed in the field, and I shot it. It was drawn in by the rota, something that we have noticed happening a few times in the past. Another crow came to 'have a look' and that was dispatched too. We only saw about 5 pigeons, and they were flying fast and high, and too far out for any chance of a shot. They did'nt seem interested in our decoys etc. We decided to concentrate on crows instead, seeing that there were more of them flying about, aned we placed some crow decoys out, to the side of the pigeon ones. We saw two crows out at about 70 yards, and they turned and came into the decoys, and I shot one, which turned out to have a lot of white feathers on it's wings. We ended up only getting 4 crows, which was a bit disappointing. But, as always, we still enjoyed our morning out, and plan to go there again soon. My thanks to Mark for his company, and us having a good laugh as well.
