Mr Potter
HELP Long story which I have laboriously typed out once, then stupidly pressed the back button & lost it so I'll keep this brief. This evening my gun broke, top lever spring stop screw has sheared of in the top lever (vertical shaft between the top lever and the barrel locking bolt). The only chance I can see of me getting the sheared bit of screw out of the shaft is to remove the top lever complete assembly from the action - Q How do I do thisIf I can get it out I stand a chance of drilling out the broken bit and job done. I am going to try the local gunsmiths tomorrow but being a pessimist I don't think they will be available to turn the job round in 4 days. Why 4 days? cos I'm all booked to go to Holland next week to shoot in the Dutch GP and this gun is the only one on my EFL (European Firearms License) well that and my semi auto which I can't shoot and am part-ex'ing on Saturday. So if I can get this top lever assembly out I think I, well me and my mate Mr Wright-Watt, can get the job gone. Any advice very gratefully received. Mr Potter
Try Dave Walker, based in Grappenhall,Warrington. http://www.davewalkerfirearmrepairs.co.uk/ Well a big thumbs up to Dave Walker, gunsmith & absolute top bloke Got in touch with Dave on Thursday morning just as he was about to leave for his holiday lodge in Wales. Explained my predicament and he agreed that, if I could get the action to him within the hour he would take it with him and work on it whilst he was away! the wife got there in time so off the action went. Luckily he was going to a party on Saturday night so I got a phone call that evening saying all was well and could I get the replacement screw to him on Sunday. I nipped round to my mate's who lent me a screw from an old Miroku 3800 action he was keeping as a source of bits and on Sunday morning the every obliging Mrs duly obliged and delivered the part. Dave promptly said hang on and 5 mins later passed the now completed action over. Well obviously as there was no possibility of shopping involved she had come out with no money so she handed it back and said she'd nip home for her purse. No problem Dave said, take it away and pay me when it's convenient. So I popped round after tea tonight and coughed up a very modest sum all things considered, I reckon about 15 minutes work in a BMW garage and whilst it was in bits he'd taken the opportunity to check it over, service it and grease it up So, a good gunsmith who doesn't charge the earth and really does go "the extra mile", definitely 5 star service. I really couldn't praise & recommend Dave Walker any more highly. In the NW and need gun-smithing, give him a call you wont be disappointed.
