Fat toad
Hi mate 23rt hope you enjoy the forum if you want any advice just post once again welcome from Frank(fat toad) not sure about a scope try before you buy try with glasses on and off most scopes eye focus will adjust to your eye try one and see as for which one there are loads of makes and hundreds of combinations of what they do but most guys I know have at least one which is a 3-9x40 or up to 56 the bigger the scope end the more the light gets in I'm still looking for a scope to go with my eyes which are now old I think I may have found it it's a 10x44 viper made by MTC don't worry the guys on here will help you choice but they will need to know your budget and you would properly want to go hunting after your garden targets are done well good luck to you Edited August 16, 2011 by Fat toad
AndyElectro
Hi i have just got my 1st air rifle its a 22 smk 19 and have not got a scope, as im short sighted and wear glasses for it would i be better with a scope, im only target shooting at the moment until i get good. Thanks My father in law has an SMK 19 and as he only uses it for target/pest shooting he bought a cheap SMK 3-9x40 scope which is good for the money. If you are literally just using it for target practice it is always a good idea to get some kind of scope to ensure you get a good grouping on the target as the cross hairs give you a more accurate position to fire on (once zeroed)

fenboy
A 4x32 scope will be fine under most circumstances its only if you are shooting at longer ranges a 3-9 magnification will be of any real benefit and to be honest with the SMK you will not want to be shooting long range not knocking it but as with most things in life you get what you pay for they are aimed at entry level shooters ,I have infact just brought one for my nephew to get him into shooting. the bigger objective lens IE the 40 in 3-9x40 will only be of more use than a 32 lens in low light conditions so if you are planning on doing your shooting in your garden in the middle of the day the 32x4 will be fine. 23rt
Hey frank yeah cheers for the advice it has helped will now look in to the scopes. Thanks
fenboy
Also bear in mind if your new that a higher magnification not only makes the target look bigger it also magnifies any shake/movement you make more !.final piece of advice is even if you get a cheap scope get a decent set of mounts for it I would recommend a one pice mount for a spring gun , if you use cheap mounts chances are you will have trouble keeping the scope zeroed. Good luck
