Some of the Cannon cameras with the Carl Ziess lenses are very good.

 

I use a Fuji F455, its very small and fits in my pocket on my wading jacket. It's very handy not being heavy or large but still gives reasonably good pics.

 

Here's a buck I shot at the weekend, poor light at 06:15.

Lord Geordies advice is spot on. I had similar advice from a pro-photographer last year, his advice was that Canon know what they are doing with the bit of glass at the front, and the chip inside.

 

I ended up buying a Canon EOS 350D.

 

Like everything, buy the best you can afford.
