Radar_uk
Came down this morning to find my GWP had been sick everywhere overnight and was very poorly - she was fine last night when we went to bed. She got worse through the morning, more sickness, serious diarrhoea and no energy at all. Totally off her food and just basically laid in her crate and looked at us through sorrowful eyes. Took her to the vet at lunchtime and she has had an injections and a course of antibiotics but whilst I was there the vet enquired whether I walked her in Sherwood Forest due to some mystery illness that is affecting a lot of dogs that have been walked there and has sadly proved fatal to a number of dogs. We haven't walked her there though have frequently took her to close by woods. Vet gave me a link relating to this 'mystery illness' and it seems to be not just in this area.... Thought I'd share with you all in case it may be relevant to your locations... http://www.aht.org.uk/news.html#msi
BenBhoy
so sorry to hear about your dog, hope all ok now. i saw this on new last night about the staffy in sherwood, on BBC east midlands one guy said it might have been due to the blue green algae in the water. Radar_uk
My dog is a little better thanks, still nowhere near her old self at the moment but at least is eating/drinking a little more and keeping it in ! Apparently this has happened in the area for the last couple of years I have read and seems to last for about a month to 6 weeks then goes away, the AHT are convinced it is a naturally occurring substance so the algae might well be the culprit. mfletch
Sad hope your dog gets better soon. It was bad around me a few years ago. Owners have been advised to keep dogs on a lead in Haywood Oaks, Blidworth Woods, Sherwood Pines and Thieves Wood http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/8292557.stm
Radar_uk
I usually walk her in Thieves Wood and she is never on the lead so once she is well enough to go out again she'll be on the lead for the time being if we go up there. There are some other places where we go so I will try and find out if they're affected before letting her off the lead.
