ben0850
Evening All My Mrs has an L plate defender 90 which she uses for going round the sheep etc but come winter her Dad uses it for his vehicle on shoot days etc. It's already been given the BF, snorkel, chequer board treatment but we'd really like to fit some side steps to it for him as a surprise (it's bloody high at the end of a long day). Has anyone got any recommendations? I've seen the folding single step type but would ideally like to fit some bars instead (even though they are no lower than the cills they offer some purchase for your boot). Does anyone know a good place to buy other than fleabay? Or anyone flogging any? Hoping you can help Cheers Ben
mrwabbits
Evening All defender 90 To fit some Folding steps or to fit some bars (even though they are no lower than the sills ) Cheers Ben Ive got short leg syndrome as well + tallied in with a long day and high seat entry - trust me ime glad of the step boost Personally, I would go with the Folding type side-steps (which i do have fitted both sides ). The rear one is a tow hitch fitting double solid grill type step (and close car parkers hate to bump their nice Martia mobile into it ). Folding are Much lower when folded down to give a good supported foot + body weight purchase when gaining entry and egress from the vehicle, and you can toe-flip them up to stow folded. Keep the hinges and return spring well oiled/greased and they will serve you well. Make sure the horizontal brace bar is fitted also from the step to chassis rail. If your buying second hand - then ensure the horizontal brace bar/s comes with step/s . You will also have to purchase seperately (if second hand), 1 or 2 threaded hole inserts + bolt/s, (new step kits should come with these inclusive)) these are for the bit where you will have to drill and fit in chassis rail to retain said horizontal brace bar one end. The other 2 top fixing bolt locations are already in place and pre=drilled in the sill support steelwork (very handy and nice of L/R to accomodate Drivers side was a bit trickier due to fuel tank + brackets on one of the top bolt fixings - so i drilled that fixing hole downwards to step bracket through the door edge floor pan. Easy job - drill+bits and 2 spanners + 1/2 hr your done, Bobs yer uncle Fannies yer aunt.
