flukeyluke
Hi,we bought a 9 week old patterndale x border terrier bitch 3 days ago and she gets on great with our rottie x collie (dog) but our jack x cavillier(bitch 4 years old) growls and snaps at her whenever she goes close, she only wants to play but sandy(our jack x)is having none of it. Will she exept her as part of the family in time? and how long should we give it? sandy wont even look at the pup most the time and turns her head away from it. PLEASE help as we have already become very attached to this pup and it would break our hearts to get rid of her. Thanks luke

Thanks luke I've taken in loads of dogs for training - and generally if you have a dog that doesn't accept the new pup immediately, They will let them into the Pack after a few days. I would just keep an eye on them but don't worry too much about it. Please let us know how you get on.

flukeyluke
BREAK THROUGH!!!! today my jack x was still growling at the pup everytime she went close to her,i felt like going for a wonder with the gun so went upstairs to get ready, i came down 10 mins later and opened the living room door to a whirlwind lol sandy(the jack x) was playing with the pup and they were chasing each other around the house like maduns barking and waging there tails. Then we go out,my wife to her friends and me for a wonder, come back 2hrs later, let the dogs out and sandys growling again lol then from nowhere about 30 mins later she starts playing with the pup again and the house is pandamonium lol:) Finaly we are seeing improvement, things still arnt perfect but we were so happy to see them playing,as i type this my jack x is grumpy again after there 40min hectic play and growling everytime she comes close to her,but at least we now know she loves the pup deep down As for jasper(our rottie x) he just still takes the pup in his stride and really does seem to love her,we are so glad we didnt rush into getting rid of her. Luke Funny they say the top dog will exept incommers more readily because he/ she is aware of its status and its the middle / lower rankers that take issues. Do you think the Rottie x is top dog? flukeyluke
No im top dog mate but my rottie x defo rules over our 4 legged family members,he was great with sandy (jack x) though when she was a pup, funny because he dont really like other(strange) dogs much and defo dosnt like strangers of the human kind but hes never bit anyone, just growls deeply and shows all his scary teeth lol Funny thing is he listens to me more than anyone and is always by me but will only let my wife cut his nails? dosnt listen to her much so its strange to me lol if i try to cut them he growls and gets grumpy.
