sandspider
Hi all Just idly thinking of getting a set of diamond stones off a certain auction site to sharpen my kitchen knives, garden tools etc. (I already have a normal whetstone for the kitchen knives, but it's not very fast and doesn't give me great results - possibly not enough practice). I understand diamond stones sharpen more quickly, but presumably are harsher on the steel of the knife blade? Also, I read that they don't need lubrication, but presumably they'd work better with a drop of water / oil? Anyone use diamond stones, and what do you think of them? Cheers, Giles
Bad Monkey
I use a small diamond stone for pocket knives. Diamaond stones are indeed harder than other stones, thats's why they sharpen quicker. They don't require any lubrication but do need a rinse off in water occasionally, which is reason in itself to not use an oil based lubricant. ATB. sandspider
Thanks BM. I may as well get a set and give them a try
ziplex
The diamond steels are good too, just a few strokes for a razor sharp edge (don't buy the cheap type though, the 'diamond' coating wears off in no time) Edited October 12, 2011 by ziplex
