Chris Bb
The driver's door on my 90 has dropped slightly, it has to be lifted by the handle whilst closing. Any ideas how to cure this? Do I undo the hinges then re-tighten them with the door held a little higher? If so, what screwdrivers fit those massive cross head screws? Yes, I know, massive cross head screwdrivers. Stu21
If the door has dropped a little bit you can lift the door slightly by lifting the back of the door from the bottom. same effect as moving the hinges but less hassle. Dr_evil
The easiest way to do it is to put some mole grips on the bolt, shut the door and tighten the screws up No idea what size the screwdriver is I just used a big one when rebuilding the
mfletch
A impact driver set will have a large Phillips in it that will fit I think its a no4 or
silver pigeon 3
You can take up the slack by moving the hinges, start with undoing both top bolts and 1 of the lower ones (on the pillar not on the door). Get someone to lift the back of the door an retighten, check for alignment. The probable cause is the hinge pins wearing or broken, these are not replaceable by there selves as you need to replace the hinges.
mick miller
Don't bother trying to move the hinges, they're knackered by the sound of it (I know, I've had the same problem and buggerered around for an age trying to get it to shut properly). You can buy a new genuine set for a TD5 (the ones that won't dribble rust down your doors) from here £32.00 delivered for the full set, buy some new plastic shims/ gaskets (£7.50), get yourself two new door latches while you're at it too as chances are the plastic sleeves are knackered on both (£8.50 for two from allmakes). You just need to spray the new hinges to match. Trust me, it makes the whole wobbly door thing go away for another ten years. Being a tart I also added zinc coated J-Nuts and stainless bolts.
