I did it with a small screw dirver Doh ! and unable to reverse it ! the manual states do not use anything or damage may result. So all help very much appreciated. Al I'd go straight to the Remington 597 section on Rimfirecentral.com and ask there. If somebody on there does'nt give you a sensible solution or offer you a key, I'll eat my gunslip! ATB, Peter. It can be unlocked with a small screw driver, better yet if this gun was ever made without the lock, you should be able to get the older safety button without the lock. Neil.
