Second hand car warranty

Hi

Hoping for some advice, I bought a 53plate freelander about 6 weeks ago and there has been an intermittent fault which is now a permanent one. The downhill decent and TC warning lights come on when you start the engine or when you first brake when driving. It switches off every now and again. Is there a common fault on these which causes this which i could fix?

The place i bought it from have been good with the couple of other faults but did not fix this one as could not find it when it went in a couple of weeks ago. So now the problem..... the place is 75 miles away and their warranty only covers work at there workshop and not picking the vehicle up, so far I have taken the car twice (both times mentioned this fault) which involved taking another car up there so in total done 6 round trips with various cars. Costing me money and also 3 hours each round trip. Is there anyway i can make them pick it up this time? I have been reasonable with them and they have been good but i just dont want to waste another 2 evenings of my life driving 150 mile round trip.

So 2 questions really, is there a normal cause of this that i can fix for under the £40 in fuel it would cost me to get it there or how do i make them collect it?

I would pay for diagnostics at a garage closer to you and get them to quote for fixing the problem. Then you can decide whether it is worth the hassle of taking it up to the seller for a free repair or if it's just worth getting it done yourself locally. Traction control and Hill Descent Control are the first things to fault when the battery is a bit low, so maybe look in that direction.

I doubt there is any way of forcing them to pick the vehicle up, if you agreed to the warranty only being valid if you take it to them. Not sure how sales of goods law deals with this though. Someone else might know more about it.

Have you tried a freelander or 4x4 forum for the fault? It's probably pretty common if you have a look around :good:

£150 for a sensor seems very steep.

After a bit of research and a landy forum the general opinion is to look first at the brake light pedal switch or the downhill decent button wiring near the gearstick. I spoke to the dealer and they have been really good about it all. They are going to send me a new brake light switch for me to fit, at the same time i will check the downhill button wiring at the same time. If this does not work they said they will have it back and get it fixed.

I cant fault them to be honest they have been good as gold its just the distance that causes the problems if it was ten miles down the road would not be a problem. Wrights motors in downham market if anyone wants a car i would recomend them not there fault the car the bought to sell on was a bit of a lemon.
