Wildfowling

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to take somebody out for a days shooting on the marsh. We'd probably shoot geese in the morning followed by ducks at high tide, mainly teal, but there is still mallard, widgeon, and pintail about. We could even stay on for the whole day and get an evening flight in too.

I'd rather take out somebody who is fairly local (north west) and is NEW to wildfowling. You'd have to pay for a day ticket from my club (about £20-£30) and provide your own gun, non-toxic carts, + insurance info.

I have all the gear, decoys, rags, calls, whistles, hides. And my dog will pick birds for both of us. However you can bring your own dog if they are good swimmers, as many retrieves will be on the river.

Now the cheeky bit... I'm planning to start pigeon shooting this year, but I haven't really done it before. What would be good, is if the person I take, would be able to offer me a day out with them on the pigeons, to show me the ropes?

If this is of interest to anybody PM me and I'll get back to you ASAP. I can only take one person and given that we only have a few days left, it would probably have to be early next week or at the very end of the season (19th or 20th).

I have offered the trip to Beesley121 as he was the quickest person to respond who could make that particular day.

If it falls through it will be offered to people in order of PM's recieved. 'Matt and the girls' and 'Chris orrell' are next in line.

Thanks for the interest, I will offer this again next season.

  • 2 weeks later...

Would just like to say a massive thanks to Todd (wildfowlwer12) for taking me out yesterday on the marsh.

Apart from me being very unfit and letting a 22 year old show me exactly how unfit i actually was, I had the most enjoyable day. Getting out onto the marsh was a real eye opener into how people years ago used wildfowling as a means of providing for the table. They must have been top guys!!

I have no problem with walking 8 miles or so on pavements, but doing this on soggy wet mud, jumping various ditches/gutters in several layers of clothing, neoprene chest waders, decoys and gun is a different matter all together . Doing this with a goose on the way back was a different story all together. I was absolutley goosed (excuse the pun)

To top the day off, I managed to bag my secound ever goose, but very first canada goose along with 2 teal. Even if I hadnt bagged anything, It would have been worth every penny. Hopefully Todd will let me go with him again next year, only this time, we might set off slightly earlier so we dont miss the ducks due to me being so slow  (sorry again todd)

so thanks again Todd and I will be intouch shortly with regard to some pigeon shooting for you. :good:
