Heavy weather decoying

Mate rang me on Wednesday last week, did I fancy a trip to the fields on the pigeons.

The weather was horrible black ice on the roads and the temperature down to -5 and to top it off drizzle rain

that never let up all day.

I said yeah lets get going but I took with me a large green 50" fishing brolly and set up the hide in a hedge cover

under a large tree, using a good net at a high poll position.

My mate set up in the next field with the thinking of bouncing the birds back and forth between us.

He had quite a good day with 10 or 12 birds down but me didn't a shot, they were coming in to the decoys but before

in range they swerved off at about 80-100yds out.

I was cold but dry under the cover in my hide my mate on the other hand was cold, wet and packed in after a couple of hours but had the sport,me on the other hand had no shots off at all.

Was I unlucky or was it down to poor camouflage of my hide.

Before I packed in I walked away from the hide into the decoys area and looked back towards the hide,it looked good with plenty of background blending due to the hedge and tree, yes I could see the top of the brolly but only just.

The only thing I can think was it because of the wet conditions the brolly had a shiny reflection.Should I have slung a net over the brolly.....or shouldn't I have used a brolly at all.
