cockercas
somewhere along the line ive read/heard that a lamp powered direct from the car battery is brighter then one powered thru the cig plug. anyone shed any light on if this is true or not? bedwards1966
Unless it's a very powerful lamp (one that would probably end up blowing a fuse anyway) I wouldn't expect to see any difference. It's got some more thin wires to go through compared to running directly off the battery but I wouldn't expect to actually notice any difference. bedwards1966
Hmm, if the plug is getting hot enough to burn things then perhaps you may be better running it direct off the battery, I still wouldn't expect to see a difference to the brightness but having plugs heating up too much isn't a good thing! The Essex Hunter
thanks bedwards and i have that problem with my 170 the plug gets hot and burns things when it gets chucked in the foot well. I cut the LF plugs off and replaced them with better quality ones from an auto parts supplier. When lamping with a partner, I run the hand held off the lighter socket, and they have my other lamp on the gun. This works very well, also we don’t keep the lamp on for to long when I am driving around the farm, I don’t think you need to run a lamp for that long as the foxes know you are there anyway!! I tend pick up the eyes and head towards then turn to give the shooter a good angle. When lamping on foot we use the hand held off a separate battery pack which gives the shooter time to get set up, also the spotter can double check….. However, lamping alone works ok but over all it is safer all round with a mate in my opinion…. TEH
Ackley
just run a feed with nice heavy duty wire direct from the battery with a 30 amp fuse in line, you will get no trouble in the future plus you can trun your engine off and still have direct power to the lamp. dont forget to carry a few spare fuses in the glove box along with a spare bulb, best not to get caught out Edited March 18, 2012 by Ackley
