nath86
I am looking for any land to shoot on in South Wales, the nearer to Swansea the better. I currently shoot near Newport where my father in law has 17000 acres. The distance means I am limited to shooting once or twice a month, I would ideally like to do this at least once or twice a week. I am currently shooting a .22 air rifle but would like to get my Shotgun or Rimfire licence but as I don't have any shooting rights and cannot afford to join a club I cannot prove why I need the licence for the police to grant me one. If anyone needs any pest control or simply has some land they would not mind me shooting on that would be great. Many Thanks, Nathan

nath86
yes he has got a rimfire but as its single shooting rights, i dont technically have land to shoot on is what i have been told, seems harsh to me but i will have to find some shooting rights of my own and try again. Thanks for the reply tho.

HDAV
What is single shooting rights? For shotgun you don't need land. Unless FIL has sold the rights including vermin? Or he gives you permission on 7000 and his on 10000, perhaps he doesn't like or trust you! Also clubs for .22 don't charge much neither do straw ale clay grounds. If you can't afford club fees how are you going to pay for ammo fuel, insurance etc??? Edited March 20, 2012 by HDAV
nath86
No its not that he doesnt trust me lol i could shoot there whenever i want but its the time and money, i have been shooting in wiltshire for years since i was a kid, im now 25 and have 2 young kids i just dont have the time of money for fuel to drive to newport more than once or twice a month, the land does not actually belong to him, he just has permission but it is for one shotgun. i dont know the details. Im just looking for some permission close to home so that i could shoot on a more regular basis as its something i love doing. if anyone could help me out with this or knows of anyone who could that would be great. or if anyone would like some company one a few trips out then let me know. Brown Sauce
Hi nath86, You can apply for your sgc by stating you'll be shooting at a clay ground. Crynant has a reasonable ground which you can join or a little further away south Wales 2000. It would be good from the feo's point of view if you do attend the ground to get your name and face know as they will check out your attendance, not sure if they'll have a club gun to use, but give them a call. After a few months put in the application south Wales police are pretty good if you need advice you speak to a chap called Gareth Evans local feo for Swansea. There is also Swansea rifle club you can join, do your 6 plus months probation and then you can apply for your fac. Surely the landowner of 17000 acres wouldn't mind granting more than one person permission to control vermin on their land. That is a whole lot of acreage for one person to control effectively. If they would I'd have no problem sharing the cost of travel down the m4 with you Edited March 22, 2012 by Brown Sauce
