Longy0710
Well I have took the plunge and added another member to our house. His name is Bentley and he is a pedigree fox red Labrador. He will be my first dog but not my other half as she has owned Labs before. First question is I am wanting to do some picking up with him and have him as my peg dog eventually. What would you suggest I buy in the way of dummies etc for the basic training/retrieval training? Got a couple of 1/2lb dummies on there way but what else will I need. Just to help people reply, here is a picture of him at 4 weeks (we pick him up in 4 weeks also) Thanks in advance Longy
chris o
Mate he looks gorjes. To start with I would just use old socks and rags tied up for playing with and to start. Him retrieving but dont do the retrieve work as trainning time leave formal trainning till at least six month and then still keep everything basic and simple. But you only need very little really a small dummie half pound, tennis balls, old socks and old but clean rags to start with and when he is older get a 210 1/2 acme whistle and a couple pound and a half dummies. But mainly just play with himi even use pheasant tails for playing with by moving it across the floor. Hope this helps.

arwen3513
keep it all fun, fun, fun. if you see him with anything in his mouth try and encourage him to come to you and take it away gently with a command word (give/dead) never get stressed even if it is the remote or something expensive, just swop it for one of his own toys with a good dog praise. when teething freeze a damp clean cloth or frozen carrot, and dont pull your hand out when he is mouthing you, thats when it hurts, let him mouth you but tell him gently and soon you can ease this off with a high squeel and a NO command if he does hurt you, this will help encourage him to be gentle when holding stuff. both my Vizsla like to lead me about by the hand when i first come home, or bring me a toy. good luck jan
