saggy61
Hi all this has probably been talked about before and i will apologise if it has. My question is..... Can you use a .22 cleaning kit on a .17hmr would the brass be ok going down the barrel. Only reason im asking is due to the price and availability of the price.17hmr cleaning kits. Thanks guys

mick miller
No, you cannot. The .22 rod and jag is too wide you'll need a specific .17 cal rod and jag and patches, reloading solutions sell them. I do clean my hmr every 250 rounds or so, just using a mix of Shooter's Choice and Kroil on patches until they come out clean. I finish off with a couple of runs through with Isopropyl Alcohol until that too is clean. Remember that the hmr (in my experience) is more accurate with a bit of fouling, so first thing is to put a couple or three dirtying rounds through before setting off to shoot when you take it out again. Being as the .17 has such a tiny bore I would suggest the use of a bore guide when using the rod and jag.
