Remington 1100 assembly question

'Lo all,

I've just picked up a s/h 1100 and I need some info on the correct position for the piston, seal and barrel seal.

Looking at the gun with the action to the left and the mag tube end to the right, there's a machined groove (quite wide, about twice width of the o ring) on the right in line with where the gas ports point from the barrel, and a narrower groove nearer the action side.

Am I correct in having the barrel o ring in the groove on the right, with the piston seal and piston (both metal split rings) free to slide up and down the tube? Or does one of the split rings need to locate in the leftmost groove?

Or should the o ring be in the leftmost groove with nothing in the right, leaving not a lot of sliding space for the gas piston? :)

Any and all help appreciated - I've checked the manualk and all it tells me is that I have the components slid over the tube in the correct order, no reference to anything locating in grooves etc etc

Thanks,

Dan
