Bewsher500
After thinking about it for ages I have pulled my finger out and put up a public spreadsheet. Please add your batch numbers and details of split neck, misfires, squibs etc. I have started off the proceedings from another post on here I have put this up on BBS and Stalking Directory Please feel free to repost anywhere else. If Mods can sticky this it would help I personally would be interested if there is a common theme between manufacturer/brand and/or batch number and the problems associated with poor QA https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Au0f-ch1y3-2dGZuR01jaC02U0UtR2hsc3FQSjZLM3c#gid=

Salop Matt
I get alot after firring that have very small splits in the neck but never a problem or issue so do you want these adding to ? I also have to ask whats expected to be acheived by this data base ? Are folks going to print it off before buying there next batch and go through it checking batch numbers and rejecting ammo "just incase" ? Just asking not being funny, but just want to know the intended purpose of it !
Bewsher500
well I would say that depends on what it turns up. If it shows that the bulk of the issues are with Winchester branded ammo or are from a particular range of batch numbers then we at least have a central store of incidences rather than anecdotal evidence of "my mate said that last week he thought he had a misfire" If there any correlations between what we see then the manufacturer can't deny it and will need (or can be persuaded) to do something about it. At the moment the only action taken is when something goes wrong, exchanging ammo or worse, replacing whole guns when the squib is followed by another round. I can only assume the dealers and importers are claiming this back from the manufacturer (CCI) how many of your split necked rounds will you fire and if you do will you check them first to see if that "underpowered" or "squib" round was one of the split necked ones? They usually have evidence of splits before firing if they have splits after. just very tiny hardly noticeable. what brand are they? I have had lots of split necks in the past but never had a squib. I dont use it enough to get too excited and he .17M2 doesnt seem to be effected in the same way. ALL my split necks were 17rg Winchester None of the CCI and none of the 20gr ammo I have has splits before firing. I cant't be sure but I suspect that the CCI branded ammo will not show up as regularly as the winchester, Hornady etc. Only by compiling all the data available in one place can we actually make any assumptions on where the problem lies. if you can be bothered to add yours then it will all go into the mix thanks Edited May 11, 2012 by Bewsher500
