halight
There are some wheat fields by were I live. Backing on to them is an old mine. The mine closed in the early 1960s. Since then the ground mostly has been left to grow wild. As such a large part of the ground has become a wood. Ever since i was a kid the whole wood has been full of tree rats! We use to play over there as kids on our bikes riding down the built up old slack piles. There were that many of the tings over there that as kids they would come right up to us within a few feet. Today a lot of people walk there dogs over the same land. There don't seem to be as many over there now. But the wheat fields being so close could explain why there were so many in one place when I was a kid.
Actionpigeons
Make sure you freeze the squirrels for a cpl of days before feeding to ferrets, as they are full of ticks this time of the year as a rule Edited June 15, 2012 by Actionpigeons
Reece
I've never seen squirrels damage crops, but I have seen them feeding off stubble fields, especially those bordering woodland. They will feed off any food source they find, including eggs and shoots of trees and other plants, so it is not unusual for them to feed off growing crops. They eat a lot of vegetation in the spring because there is little else for them to eat. And it would be great if you could add your kills to the pigeon watch grey squirrel kill count for 2012.
