darren m
I fitted a new water pump to my '96 300 tdi this afternoon after a bearing collapse a leak and a belt shred : also fitted a new serpentine belt but now it keeps edging off the WP pulley by about two mil, just enough to sit on the flange of the pulley where it make a hell of a noise and it's likely to get shredded. I've tried and tried to get it back in line but after re-starting the engine it waits about five seconds before going off-line again. Could this be a problem with the water pump pulley, power steering pully or the tensioner. The tensioner seemed really taut to move and it was a real tight fit to get the belt back. Prior to this the tensioner was not such a tight fit. Grateful for any advice thanks.
bobt
was it a genuine water pump? or a Britpart one? sounds like the pully isnt inline.
88b
Apart from the belt the only thing different is the pump, is it a genuine Land Rover pump or a pattern part? It's possible it's not exactly the same and putting the belt out of line causing it to ride off the pulley
darren m
thanks lads -- checking the alinement now , all looks ok nothing obvious. could it be the tensioner. compared new and old pumps and they look the same
darren m
lads - this is gonna sound strange , but as a last resort i thought i would try the "penny trick" and suprise suprise the belts have fallen back into line again. so it means one of the pulleys must be out of line , but which one , could it be the tensioner itself all though all looks fine. going to take it for a short drive and see what happens
