tom simkins Posted June 24, 2012 Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 hi i have a 10 bore brown bess 1813,, the flint is striking just under half way up..is this right? is it my flint,,its not for shooting,,its for show however i do want it to look right,, did they use leather or lead to secure the flint? thanks for any info.. Magus69 Posted June 24, 2012 Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 Eyup Tom On a flinter you really want to use lead as leather acts as a shock absorber to the flint,as to the position of the flint in the hammer by what you describe I would say that the flint is set too far back, but the most important part is where the sparks are actually thrown you want them all to go down into the frizzen.
