millrace Posted August 17, 2012 Report Share Posted August 17, 2012 heres my question has anyone ever put a barrel feeder ie pheasant feeder on an island in a flight pond and did it work,,,,,,was down in an estury in co mayo last summer and there was a feeder sittin on a green with the ducks coming up to it just above the water edge,, was thinkin of tryin this on my pond but lookin for opinions it is all wild duck comin to feed.... hillmouse Posted August 20, 2012 Report Share Posted August 20, 2012 Yes it will work and can be good if you cannot get there as often as you might like to,but it will also feed rats, crows and other verminiferous birds and beasts. It is a bit obvious but if you put a trap under it use a very long tunnel or drain pipe to the trap. Ducks have very long necks. Now how do I know that? Also beware of letter box feeders for duck as again they will snake their necks in to get the dregs if it has run low and get trapped.
