fieldwanderer
Put simply, myself and my shooting buddy have acquired a large new permission in the middle of nowhere and I'd like a larger calibre rifle - at the moment for foxing but, if possible, I'd like to get a rifle that'll be legal for deer too to save getting another in the future. My shooting buddy's spoken to the f.l.o. on my behalf (he sees him out and about occasionally) and the gist is I can have a .243 if I do the DSC1 - though obviously I'll speak to our f.l.o. myself before going much further. Can someone talk me through the process please and / or recommend a course not too far from Lincolnshire at a good price?
al4x
It's a simple 3 or 4 day course plenty to learn you have safety tests as well and shooting ones. Mine was 300 with a free stalk and access to an online learning centre which made it pretty straight forward

There is nothing in the HO guidelines that state you need a dsc course to get a deer/foxing calibre, if you have the land and a bit of experience which judging by your gun list you must have they can't really turn you down to many forces are trying to get people to do these courses to justify themselves should anything go wrong nothing to do with public safety at all don't get drawn into that one, I don't no wether Lincolnshire do a any other lawful quarry condition but my force do there for any calibre will be ok if not I think the 6.5x55 is the largest deer/foxing calibre and a good choice I have two and was granted it on my first application and no mention of a dsc1 either but as we no most forces make it up as they go along, if you want to do a lot of deer stalking in the future then a dsc is a good idea but it's £275 that you could put towards a rifle don't get forced in to doing something you may not need to do......
