turbo33
I had a weep from my rapid buddy bottle. It was the older type valve with the ball bearing. Nothing for it but to replace the valve assembly. After emptying it completely of the remaining air,( remove the o ring and fit it to the rapid) obviously I had to remove the old valve assembly. The early ones don't have a key or a flat on the housing, so I assumed as the valve was us anyway, it wouldn't matter if I was a bit brutal. :o I warmed the neck of the bottle by rolling it in front of a small blowtorch just sufficiently to make the neck almost too warm to hold, but not enough to damage the paint. During this process, i put a small screw driver in the valve to release any further pressure building up by the air expanding. Then with the valve shoulder in the vice, I turned the bottle to release the thread lock and remove the valve. A quick email to Dr Bob (drbobsgunbits) had a new valve in the post to me and it arrived next day. ( Really nice chap to deal with.) Beautifully engineered with the new shrader valve, 2 spare o rings to service the shrader in the future. The valve assembly is machined so you can use a spanner to fit it and remove it for servicing. All for the princely sum of 30 pounds posted. The whole job took less than 30 mins and its back in business
Big Gnat
Yip, Dr Bob knows his stuff ! Wee bit advice when taking the bottle off the gun to refill it. As you turn it to unscrew it, after a full turn or two fire a few shots. This will reduce the pressure in the valve and prevent blowing the O ring. Lesson I learned the hard way. I had to fit a new O ring on my new Valve after a couple of days use.
turbo33
Yes, good tip Its in the manual, but suprisingly when I was shown in the gunshop how to take the bottle off, the salesperson obviously didn't know that. I thought the process looked a bit iffy as the o ring blew Unlike him, I read up on it Edited September 30, 2012 by turbo33
