BerettaSV10
Unfortuanately it does take a long time for them to respond, they say its because they need to get reports from the hosptial and any doctors that you have seen. If I remember one of the forms they send you asks if you want to see any such reports, I just asked the doc as was seeing him on a regular basis and he said there was no objections from him to get it back. If you do ask for copies of reports and depending on your area some may not send the reports to dvla until you have seen them (if you requested to see them). They are quick though to take your licence off you as soon as I notified them, I had a letter by return asking for my licence and it had 2 days grace (assumed for postal delays before it was revoked) :(

It is a bit of an odd one in my case, I surrendered my licence voluntarily (GP advised this as the best option, or they would have taken it anyway!), which now means I apparently do not need to take a retest, just convince a medical board. Problem is, the reason I surrendered it was due to dizziness/vertigo attacks. I was seen by the ENT surgeon initially, who said it was "Meniere's - type symptoms" and all I could do was wait and hopefully over the years it would improve - that was 2004. Sure enough it has, so my GP approved me re-applying last week. Trouble is, although I have been over 18 months since a vertigo attack and a few months since my last seriously dizzy episode, it is the problem of convincing them that -a. it is under control and not disabling from the driving viewpoint, and -b. I get enough warning of an episode to pull over and not drive; especially considering it has not/can not be medically assessed in advance with any real certainty- just my testimony. I haven't seen my GP about it for years as I am not Px anything, I have been discharged from the ENT clinic for years - nothing really helps, except rest and quiet if an episode starts. All makes it a bit vague from the DVLA viewpoint, yet dizziness is obviously a no-no in driving. I have sent all the forms and permission to talk to my doctor etc.. Problem is I know I am safe now, I voluntarily stopped driving when it happened - I would never want to know that someone was hurt because I was driving when unwell, which is why I haven't driven these last 8 years, it is convincing them that is going to be tricky, I think. Ah well, nothing I can do but wait and hope...
four-wheel-drive
Have a look at one of these http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/subaru/forester/postcode/sn130qw/radius/40/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/transmission/automatic/sort/priceasc Some years ago when Price Charles Mrs lived in my area she had one of these they say that they are quite good for going across fields with the four wheel drive the only problem is ground clearance but that would depend on where you want to go in it. Also not to high of the ground for you to get in and put your buggy in also I would not think that they would tend to have been driven to hard as the faster ones would be also better on road handling than a normal 4x4 well worth having a look at I would think.
