lease shooting

Guys anyone know what the going rate is per acre for leasing a shoot. Saw a farmer tonight who has put me donw in his book for when he wants some pest control, but he also asked me if i was interested in leasing the land (things are hard so i guess any income he is greatful for). He was talking around 20 quid an acre (though this is negotiable) over oil seed rape - one lot at 93 acres and another at 130 acres.

Does this sound reasonable for a years lease? Not really familiar with what the cost is. For that i can have as many people as i like on the land as long as they don't damage the crops (so may be able to recoup some money or look at setting a synidcate up)

thanks chaps

Personally I wouldn't pay more than £100 a year for 223 acres and it would have to be fairly good shooting.

You are, after all, helping the farmer by ridding him of vermin. Another option is to offer help around the farm, 10 hours a week @ £3.00 per hour (the minimum legal wage) =£30 per week x 52 =£1560 per year.

He can't argue with those maths and sometimes another pair of hands are worth more than any amount you could afford. Try it, what can he say thats worse than no? :good:

Thanks gents - your answers confirm what i suspected. I will make the offer of some free labour, but he has agreed to let me know when he needs the pigeons bashing so touch wood i should get a call at some point. He seemed an OK chap i just guess, like he said, they now have to look at any sort of income they can so canna blame for trying :good:
